Importance of Rehearsing The WORD of GOD
REHEARSING means to repeat something intentionally in order to remember it, internalize it, prepare for it, or make it part of you.
It is in short an intentional repetition for understanding, preparation, or mastery.
In biblical context
Rehearsing means repeating God’s Word through speaking, thinking, remembering, and meditating so it becomes rooted in the heart and shapes belief.
It carries the idea of:
• Practicing truth
• Keeping something alive in memory
• Turning it over in your mind
• Speaking it again and again
“Rehearsing is also about RE-HEARING, meaning I am RE-HEARING the Word of God over and over again.”
By the same token, I can also rehearse or RE-HEAR negative things.
It’s like having an earworm and hearing a song I don’t even like playing in my mind all day because it’s catchy and we know that some of these songs are quite negative.
I can rehearse what I hear on social media.
I can rehearse past trauma.
I can rehearse doubts, pain, and offense.
I can rehearse things I heard on the news or from a doctor’s negative report.
I can rehearse words that build fear instead of faith.
Whatever I allow myself to keep re hearing will eventually shape what I believe.
So I am and must continue to be intentional about what I rehearse.
1. Faith comes by hearing the Word repeatedly
The clearest foundation is:
👉 Romans 10:17
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (NKJV)
Meaning:
Faith grows when the Word is heard again and again. Rehearsing is repeating it aloud, listening to it, and exposing your heart to it continually.
This shows faith is not self-generated. It is cultivated through repeated exposure to God’s Word.
THINK ABOUT THIS
I borrow faith from God through His Word that I meditate on.
Faith is not something I manufacture. It is formed in me as I hear, rehearse, and receive what God has spoken.
I also recognize that I cannot have strong faith in areas where I have not allowed the Word to build me up.
So I stay in the Word until my heart is persuaded.
2. Meditation is the biblical idea closest to rehearsing
👉 Joshua 1:8
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night…” (NKJV)
👉 Psalm 1:2
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” (NKJV)
Biblical meditation means:
• Speaking it
• Thinking on it
• Repeating it
• Turning it over in your mind
It is literally rehearsing God’s truth until it shapes your thinking.
THINK ABOUT THIS
As a man thinks in his heart so is he.
Is it possible that I have become the things I have rehearsed over and over?
And if that’s the case, WHAT AM I REHEARSING?
3. Speaking the Word builds belief in the heart
👉 2 Corinthians 4:13
“I believed and therefore I spoke…” (NKJV)
👉 Romans 10:8–10
“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart…” (NKJV)
There is a connection between speaking the Word and internalizing faith. When you rehearse scripture aloud, it moves from information to conviction.
THINK ABOUT THIS
Speaking the Word of God out of our personal mouth changes our spirit and the atmosphere.
Read it aloud!
4. Remembering God’s works strengthens faith
👉 Psalm 77:11
“I will remember the works of the Lord…” (NKJV)
👉 Deuteronomy 6:6–7
“You shall teach them diligently… and talk of them when you sit… walk… lie down… rise up.” (NKJV)
God instructed Israel to constantly repeat His words so faith would remain alive. This is rehearsing through remembrance and conversation.
THINK ABOUT THIS
Just like we had to remember multiplication tables… the rehearsal invites memory and the memory of the righteous is blessed!
5. The Word renews the mind
👉 Romans 12:2
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (NKJV)
Rehearsing scripture replaces old thought patterns with God’s truth, which strengthens faith.
THINK ABOUT THIS
A new person is being configured as I speak the Word.
